Wisconsin Travel and Walker's Point
Walker's Point is a neighborhood in Milwaukee on the peninsula between the Milwaukee and Menomonee Rivers on the South Side. This area was built up to be a downtown center, but competition was intense. The area was somewhat abandoned until 1912 when Serbian immigrants again moved to this area. The First World War fueled the economy in the area, building up the community.
In recent years there has been renewed interest in the area, establishing businesses and restaurants. The area is home to artists, photographers, and musicians who choose the area for it beauty, history, and rent. This area has some of the best nightlife in Milwaukee, with great dance clubs, restaurants, and bars. Just remember to have a designated driver for your Milwaukee car rental or take a cab!
Great Restaurants
The restaurants on 6th street are well-known in Milwaukee. Come on down to Allen Bradley Tower with your Milwaukee car rental. This is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Milwaukee. This landmark has the Guinness World Record as the world's largest four-faced clock. Locals know this restaurant as the 'Polish Moon'. It is called this because the area was historically Polish. The clock was also important for navigation of Lake Michigan. The only time this clock was not lit was from November 1973 to June 1974 during the oil crisis. Across the street is Jacques French Cafe, and authentic and affordable French restaurant. Come on down with your Milwaukee car rental for dinners between $8 and $16. There are also some of the area's best Mexican and Caribbean restaurants here.
Art
Walker's Point Center for the Arts is a visual and performing arts center. They foster creativity in children with fun programming. They have many exhibits and performances throughout the year, so you can come down with your Milwaukee car rental with your kids to have a little fun.
The Old World
Milwaukee is rich in Old World history, and a short trip from Walker's Point in a Milwaukee car rental is Old World Wisconsin, where you can learn the characteristics and history of the immigrants who first settled in this area. Old World Wisconsin re-creates the early years of the farmers, tradesmen, and shopkeepers.
Tall Ships
At Pier Wisconsin you will find Discovery World, where you can learn about the maritime history of the area through the Great Lakes system with interactive exhibits, including the tall ships. There are many attractions on the lakefront, as well as parking for your Milwaukee car rental. There is also the Rockwell Automation's Dream Machine. Here you can learn about Milwaukee landmarks such as the Allen Bradley Clock, the Milwaukee Art Museum's Burke Brise Soleil, and Miller Park's roof to see how the principles of automation impact the city around you. This is a fun learning experience for the whole family.
