Wisconsin Travel and Pike Lake State Park
Pike Lake State Park is a park near Milwaukee and a great place to stop on your Wisconsin travels. Pike Lake State Park is part of the Kettle Moraine State Forest . This is a strip of glacial landforms, extending through southeaster Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The landscape here is beautiful, with kames, kettles, and eskers. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more.
Beautiful Campgrounds
Camping is available in the park from late April until the third week of October. There are 32 campsites for Wisconsin travelers. 24 campsites are in the woods, and 8 are in the open. The campground has many facilities to make your stay here more comfortable. There is a shower building, flush toilets, water fountains, a dumping station, woodshed and firewood for sale for your campfire, and there is a picnic table, fire pit, and tent pad at each site. All the sites except for two can be reserved. If they are not reserved they are given on a first come, first serve basis. There is one campsite with an electrical hookup, and it can be reserved.
Beautiful Trails
Pike Lake State Park offers nine trails for Wisconsin travelers. All the trails have a different topography and level of difficulty. They are also different in the scenery you will get to experience. Along your hike you will pass through wetlands; maple, oak, and basswood stands; open prairies; and glacial terrain. The Black Forest Nature Trail is self-guided 0.8 miles in length. The Astronomy Trail is 0.5 miles long, taking the hiker on tour of the solar system. The Hike to Powder Hill is 0.5 miles from the Nature Trail. Powder Hill is the second highest point in southeastern Wisconsin. In 2001, a 60 foot observation tower was built near the peak, giving spectacular views of the area and great photos of your Wisconsin travel adventure. The Ice Age Trail continues through the forest and state. The Boardwalk Trail is located along the lakeshore near the north picnic area. It is 0.5 miles in length and accessible to people with disabilities. There is also an observation deck along the lakeshore for more great pictures of your Wisconsin travels.
Other Activities
- There are designated picnic areas for Wisconsin travelers, as well as grills in the picnic area. There are two sheltered areas that can be reserved for group activities. Reservations can be done by phone or by mailing a form to Forest Headquarters.
- Pike Lake was named for its excellent fishing, especially the abundance of walleye pike. There are several other types of fish in the lake that anglers can fish from a boat or from the shore. This must be done outside the swimming areas if you are looking to fish on your Wisconsin travel adventure.
- Swimming is a popular activity on the beaches of the lake, especially in the hot summer months when you want to cool off from other activities.
Pike Lake State Park has a lot to offer to the Wisconsin traveler who is looking to relax and be a part of the scenic landscape. You will feel fully relaxed after a day here of hiking and swimming.
