This year (2006) will be the fourth year for the Milwaukee International Film Festival. The mission of the film festival is to present high quality films that provoke thought. The films come from around the world and the Midwest. The ultimate goal is to bring the diverse communities found in Milwaukee together culturally.

If you happened to be in the area last year with your Milwaukee car rental, you would have seen The Matador, a film starring Pierce Brosnan, as the opening film. The closing film was Nine Lives, with Glenn Close and Sissy Spacek. This year promises to have just as many great movies that film-goers are eager to see.

A unique aspect of the Milwaukee International Film Festival is that it has the first competition for Midwest filmmakers (with cash awards). This competition gives travelers like you to get a better understanding of life in the Midwest as you travel through with your Milwaukee car rental. Past films in this category include Reeseville, Gettin' Grown and The Yes Men.

The cultural and social issues presented at the film festival takes the Milwaukee International film festival out of the Midwest, and draws attention to the issues we all face as a world community. There are educational programs such as student programming, discussion panels, guest speakers, and special cultural events.

A Sneak Peak at the 2006 Festival

In mid-late October, the film festival will hit Milwaukee. There are many films that have generated enough buzz that you may want to consider seeing with your Milwaukee car rental. In "World Cinema Fiction", one of the films that is being talked about is The Ax, a French movie about an unemployed executive who takes his job competition very seriously. He will recruit then eliminate the best of his fellow applicants for his job. There is also Requiem, a German film based on the true story of a troubled college student in the 1970s. When he has a breakdown he has an exorcism instead of seeing a psychiatrist.

If you go down with your Milwaukee car rental to see the "World Cinema Documentary" category, one of the most talked about films is Jamestown: The Life and Death of the Peoples Temple. Based on the story of the Peoples Temple, the largest mass suicide/murder in history. The documentary includes never-before-seen footage of Jim Jones and his followers.
