Formerly known as the Seattle Pilots, the Milwaukee Brewers have won two Division Titles and one American League pennant, but have yet to secure a World Series birth. A source of Wisconsin pride, the Milwaukee Brewers are currently in the midst of another exciting season, so be sure to check out a game during your upcoming cheap car rental vacation!
From Seattle to Milwaukee ' A Brief History of the Franchise Move
When the Milwaukee Braves relocated to Atlanta, a group led by prominent Milwaukee car dealer Bud Selig, took it upon themselves to bring baseball back to America's Dairyland. In 1969 Bud got the break he was looking for when then Seattle Mayor Floyd Miller threatened to evict the city's Major League team. As the story goes, the Pilots had refused to pay their rent on Sick's Stadium, creating turmoil and tense public relations. Selig was quick to pounce, setting up secret negotiations with Seattle's franchise owner Dewey Soriano. After a month of secret meetings and compromise, Selig sealed the deal with Soriano during game one of the 1969 World Series; the Pilots were sold for $10.8 million and relocated to Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Brewers reached their pinnacle of performance in the early 1980's winning two Division Titles and one American League pennant. The Brewers also produced three Major League MVP's during this time period including Rollie Fingers (1981), and Robin Yount (1982 and 1989). Two Cy Young awards were also presented to the Brewers during the 1980's, thanks to exceptional pitching by Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich. Over the course of the 1990's the Milwaukee Brewers have suffered from a variety of financial woes, and league changes, producing a variety of less than stellar ball teams. The Brewers hope to turn that all around this year though, thanks to a strong pitching dugout and experienced staff.

Bernie the Brewer
The official mascot for the Milwaukee Brewers, Bernie the Brewer features a cheerful grin and a large moustache. Legend has it that Bernie is based on Milt Mason, a 69 year old fan who, in 1970, vowed to sit atop the Milwaukee County Stadium scoreboard until the team could draw an audience of 40,000+ spectators. Milt sat atop the scoreboard for 40 days until 44,387 people heeded his call on August 3. Bernie the Brewer became the official mascot in 1973, and currently resides in his own dugout atop the bleachers behind left field in Miller Park.
