A lake as old as time itself
The lovely Lake Winnebago waterway is a remnant of Glacial Lake Oshkosh which flourished about 12,000 years ago. Ice at this time, blocked the waters of Oshkosh from draining into neighboring Lake Michigan and Green Bay, creating the 21 foot deep water basin. Today, Lake Winnebago has two main tributaries, the Wolf River and the Fox River. This complex system of inflows and outflows help support Lake Winnebago's wonderful fishing industry, as well as provide neighboring city's with fresh drinking water. Damns have helped raise the level of Lake Winnebago over the years as well, providing Wisconsin travel planners and tourists with a wonderful center for recreation.
