Wisconsin Travel and Lake Winnebago
Lake Winnebago is a 137,700 acre lake with enough room to do your favorite water activities on your Wisconsin travel adventure. From power boating and sailing to wind surfing and fishing in the summer and ice boating and ice fishing in the winter make this a great escape from you. Lake Winnebago is the second largest inland freshwater lake in the United States at 28 miles long and 11 miles wide. It is so big that it is in three counties: Fond du Lac, Calumet, and Winnebago. You don't have to love being on the water to enjoy Lake Winnebago. The 85 miles of shoreline has lighthouses, harbors, launch ramps, parks, and restaurants on the water that you can enjoy. Major communities such as Fond du Lac, Oshkosh, Neenah, Menasha, and Calumet County also welcome Wisconsin travelers.
Fond du Lac
Fond du Lac is found on the southern tip of Lake Winnebago with a great community. There is the Lakeside Park Lighthouse, with a wonderful lighthouse with a 40-foot observation deck that will give you great views of the lake and wonderful memories of your Wisconsin travel. While in town, there is a Historic Talking Houses Tour. History comes to life as listen to the radio and learn about the history of the town. Fond du Lac is a town with a lot of flair. The #5 Fire Station has a Mediterranean style, while St. Louis Church has French architecture and Holy Nativity Convent was built in 1877 with a Victorian design. The Galloway House and Historic Village looks like it is still 1880 in Fond du Lac. Fond du Lac is an amazing stop on your Wisconsin travels. Other great stops in Fond du Lac include Lakeside Park, Octagon House, the jazz festival, the mainstage music festival, and many great little restaurants in town.
Oshkosh
Oshkosh is an established community on Lake Winnebago, a great stop on your Wisconsin travel trip around Lake Winnebago. Oshkosh has a great feel to it, a quiet and peaceful town who's beauty is picturesque. In the winter the ice on the trees and the crisp snowfall is breathtaking, while the summer offers gardens and a beautiful lakefront. Places to see here include Little Oshkosh, Menominee Park, Paine Art Center & Gardens, Oshkosh Public Museum, EAA AirVenture Museum, Military Veterans Museum, the Grand Opera House, Prime Outlets, and Powercom Speed Zone.
Northward from Lake Winnebago
To the north, there are the cities of Neenah and Menasha, two of the most prosperous cities on the lake. The word Neenah means "cleat water", and the water here is beautiful. There is a small town atmosphere here with a cosmopolitan flare! These twin cities on Lake Winnebago has great shopping, dining, and entertainment. There are trails, parks, and nature preserves to escape from the everyday life. Near the waterfront you can really feel the nautical presence in town. There are lighthouses, marinas, wharfs, and dockside restaurants that will really make it feel like a summer get-a-way. Other interesting points of interest include the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum and the Neenah Marina.
