Kenosha Car Rental and Kenosha Electric Streetcars
It isn't very often that a car rental company tells their customers to leave the keys at home. However, Mayfair Car Rentals believes that this attraction is one of Kenosha's, if not Wisconsin's, best. The Kenosha Electric Streetcar program is one of the nation's finest historic modes of public transportation, providing Kenosha car rental travelers with a unique way to get around the downtown area. The system, which was constructed using historic PCC streetcars, connects more than 64 acres of Harborpark development with the city's existing METRA commuter rail station. You haven't really seen Kenosha until you've seen it from an electric streetcar, so don't delay! Take a ride today.
Helping keep Kenosha green
The Kenosha Electric Streetcar project was developed for a number of reasons. Firstly, it allowed Kenosha car rental tourists with a convenient mode of downtown transportation. Secondly, the Kenosha Electric Streetcar project is also extremely environmentally friendly. This program demonstrates the feasibility of zero-emissions transportation, and the simplicity of re-introducing historic technology. Kenosha has long been a leader in implementing alternative fuels technology, operating 12 compressed natural gas public buses. Now, thanks to the Kenosha Electric Streetcar program, more than 36% of Kenosha transit program is powered by alternative fuel vehicles.
Bringing back a transportation legend
The electric streetcar was once one of the most popular forms of transportation in growing cities. Unfortunately, the streetcar lost its appeal overtime, thanks to the mobility of bus transportation and the rise in personal auto popularity. Kenosha is hoping to reverse this trend by re-introducing the electric streetcar to Kenosha car rental travelers and local residents. The project features five streetcars, all of which were purchased from the ex-Toronto PCC streetcar program in Ontario, Canada. Each is painted in a unique livery representing streetcar PCCs of the past. These liveries include:
- Chicago: Green Hornet
- Pittsburgh: Red and White with Black and Silver Trim
- Toronto: "Wine Red & Cream"
- Johnstown: Orange and Cream
- Cincinnati: Yellow with Blue Striping
