TRAVEL GUIDE

Car Rental Milwaukee and Discovery World

Discovery World is one of the newest museums at Pier Wisconsin. It is a brand-new interactive museum with state-of-the-art technology. This museum is a must-see with your Milwaukee car rental. It is designed to entertain while it educates old and young alike.

The facility, which cost $63.7 million to build, was created by Michael Cudahy, a Wisconsin businessman and philanthropist. He got the idea in the 1990s when he "saw kids going in one door sort of 'blah' and coming out the other excited, with sparkles in their eyes. They were going to be an astronaut or a doctor or a scientist". He wanted to make the original Discovery World bigger and better for people to learn more effectively. When you visit with your Milwaukee car rental you too will see this.

The architecture of the building is beautiful and calming. It is designed to look like waves lapping against a schooner. It stands next to the Milwaukee Art Museum's winged Calatrava addition. Inside, there are several distinct units. There are a total of 200 exhibits over 12,000 square feet. You should plan at least 4 hours here if you decide to come with your Milwaukee car rental.

The Technology Building

This building has exhibits about science, technology, and even economics. The most-recognized exhibit of the building is the double-helix staircase that goes around a 40-foot model of a human genome. This represents the set of chromosomes that make up the part of the gene that gives us our inherited traits. Science-lovers will love this exhibit when they stop by with their Milwaukee car rental.

The Aquatarium

In the Aquatarium history and science meet. The building is shaped in a circle that is reminiscent of the pilot house on a Great Lakes schooner. Inside the building there is even a full-scale model of a wooden schooner that was common in the 1850s. You can board the schooner and see the sleeping quarters, navigation equipment, and cooking gallery that would have been present on the vessel.
On the first floor of the Aquatarium is a 40-by-40 foot scale model of the Great Lakes. Here you can play weatherman by creating storms and other weather conditions over the Great Lakes.
Finally, there are the hosts in the building. A series of aquariums trace the freshwater and saltwater habitats from Milwaukee to the Caribbean. You can see the creatures that are kept in these tanks and learn more about them as you walk through the building, making your way back to your Milwaukee car rental.

The Denis Sullivan

This is the major connection between Pier Wisconsin and Discovery World. Wisconsin's official flagship is docked here in a man-made harbor where visitors can go on-board. You can explore the ship or listen to lectures in a wooden amphitheater.

Discovery World is a very interesting museum that comes alive as you step out from your Milwaukee car rental. You can be one of the first to see it, since it has just opened!
