Car Rental Milwaukee and Americas Black Holocaust Museum
America's Black Holocaust Museum is here to educate the public about the injustices suffered by African Americans. It goes even further to encourage people to rethink their assumptions about race and racism. This is America's only memorial to the victims of the Black Holocaust and you can visit it with your Milwaukee car rental.
From Africa to America
The first exhibit you will encounter when you leave your Milwaukee car rental is the museum's main entrance. It is a reproduction of a cargo ship that would have been used to transport people in forced migration from Africa. Inside you will find a 45-foot mural that depicts the voyage from an African village across the Atlantic.
The next exhibit you will see after leaving your Milwaukee car rental is a panel that shows the lives of African Americans in America during the 18th and 19th centuries. There are also documents on the way their lives shaped American history, culture, and politics.
The Plantation is another focus of the museum. Many people were forced to work for little food and inadequate shelter on plantations. The culture of the plantation is explored and gives visitors an idea of what it was like to live outside the master's residence. It takes you out back to the big house.
Lynching was common practice until the 20th century. The Senate Apology exhibit shows people how horrible this experience was, and features video and text of the recent Senate apology in Washington.
People have been important in changing ideas about race and racism. The exhibit about Martin Luther King Jr. shows the major events that took place during his life and the influence he had on people. There is also an exhibit about Dr. James Cameron, the only known survivor of a lynching. He was the founder of America's Black Museum Holocaust in 1988 and has dedicated his life to promoting racial equality and civil rights for all Americans. There is also information about African-American judges in Wisconsin and how they have helped shape the legal aspects of America.
Important Information
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. If you are visiting on Sunday with a group of 20 or more in your Milwaukee car rentals, then you can book an appointment for the museum to open. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $3 for students. There is free parking for your Milwaukee car rental on the south end of the building.
There is much to learn about one of America's deepest and oldest problems: race and racism. A visit here can show you the hurt it causes and make people more tolerable through understanding. It is worth a visit with your Milwaukee car rental.
